According to J̌ahukyan, from Iranian *karišn or *kaδišn, composed of the Iranian etymon of Old Armenian կար (kar, force, power) and the suffix -išn (compare Middle Persian 𐭱𐭭 (-išn), Persian ش (-eš)).
