Etymology

From ծագ (cag, extremity, end). For the sense development compare the idiom ծայր տալ (cayr tal, to begin; to rise (of sun)).

  1. (transitive) to cause to germinate, to sprout forth

  2. (transitive) to irradiate, to cause to shine

    ի ծագել արեգականi cagel aregakanat sunrise
    ծագեցաւ արեգակնcagecʿaw aregaknthe sun appeared
