Etymology

Martirosyan derives drom Proto-Indo-European *turH-d-s- and compares to Lithuanian tvìrtas (strong, firm, solid), Proto-Slavic *tvьrdъ (Russian твёрдый (tvjórdyj)).

  1. (transitive) to burn bricks or pots of clay in order to harden them
