Old Armenian

Etymology

Ačaṙyan rejects the proposals to link with եղար (ełar, lamentation) and leaves the origin open. According to Pokorny, inherited from the Proto-Indo-European root *h₃elh₁- (to destroy). This is accepted by Ałayan and J̌ahukyan.
