Old Armenian

Etymology

From Middle Median *axšēt, from Proto-Iranian *xšaytah (shining). Compare Avestan 𐬑𐬱𐬀𐬉𐬙𐬀 (xšaēta, shining), Middle Persian šyt' (šēd, bright; dun horse), Kurdish şê (word denoting the coloring of horses) and the second part of Persian خورشید (xwaršēd, sun). See also Աշխէն (Ašxēn).
