Old Armenian

Etymology

From Hurrian [script needed] (al(l)a(e)ḫḫe/inne-, keeper of that which pertains to the lord of the house/family), composed of *all-ae (lady or lord (of the house)), from the root *all- (to be lord of, to rule), + [script needed] (-ḫḫe, possessive adjective suffix) + [script needed] (-(i)nne, suffix of names of professions and similar). The borrowing may be from an Urartian cognate. Also from Hurrian are Akkadian 𒊩𒌓𒄭𒉡𒌅 (alaḫḫinatu, serving girl in the queen's court or of temple personnel) and Aramaic לחנה (/ləḥentā/, serving girl, concubine). See also աղխ (ałx).
