видьме

Moksha

Etymology

Cognate with Erzya and Moksha видемс (videms, to sow) (also “to lose” in Erzya, “to scatter” in Moksha). According to UEW, from Proto-Finno-Ugric *wettä (to throw). Veršinin has doubts of this connection, suggesting that the initial element might be secondary and that the term might be cognate with Estonian idanema (to sprout).[1][2]
