πρόσωπον

Ancient Greek

Etymology

πρός (prós, towards) + ὤψ (ṓps, eye). The existence of Sanskrit प्रतीक (prátīka) indicates that this compound goes back to Proto-Indo-European *prétih₃kʷo-.
