Etymology

From Medieval Byzantine Greek ἀκριτικός from ἀκρίτης (akrítēs, frontier soldier) from Ancient Greek ἄκρα f (ákra, edge) + -ίτης (-ítēs). Not to be confused with άκριτος (ákritos, thoughtless) and its root from κρίνω (kríno, I judge).
