Via other European languages, ultimately from Latin alchimista, from Arabic اَلْكِيمِيَاء (al-kīmiyāʾ), from article اَل (al-) + Ancient Greek χυμεία (khumeía, art of alloying metals) (which contains the suffix -εία (-eía), Latvian -ija).
