Etymology

From Old Turkic ǖr- (ǖr-, to blow, bark)[1], from Proto-Turkic *ür- (to blow)[2]. Final "ü" in ürü- in Turkish is a later development and not well understood, ür- can still be found in various dialects. Cognate with Kyrgyz үрүү (ürüü, to blow, bark), Uzbek hurmoq (to bark), Khakas ӱрерғе (ürerğe, to blow), Kazakh үру (ürw, to blow, bark).
