închega

Romanian

Etymology

Probably from a Vulgar Latin root *inclagāre, from metathesis of *incoāglāre, from *incoāgulāre (compare Aromanian ncljeg, ncljigari, Romansch inquaglier), intensive of Latin coagulāre (compare French cailler, Italian cagliare), present active infinitive of coagulō. Alternatively, simply from Vulgar Latin *clagāre < coāgulāre, with the prefix în- added later in Romanian (and therefore a doublet of coagula, a borrowing).

Verb
