From a Vulgar Latin root *inclagō, from metathesis of *incoāglō, from *incoāgulō (compare Daco-Romanian închega, încheg, Romansch inquaglier), intensive of Latin coagulāre (compare French cailler, Italian cagliare), present active infinitive of coagulō. Alternatively from n- + *clagō < coāgulō.
