  2. honourable, dignified
    Die würdigen Herren betraten den Saal.

Usage notes

In the formal standard language, würdig is usually construed with a genitive object (eines Familienvaters würdig). However, the dative is often preferred in less formal style (einem Familienvater würdig). Oftentimes, though, the colloquial language will simply avoid this phrasing altogether.
