From Proto-Albanian *awa-rangula from Proto-Indo-European *(s)krengh- (“to turn, bend”). Compare Umbrian krenkatrum, cringatro (“belt”), Proto-Slavic *krǫgъ (“circle”) (Russian круг (krug), Old English hrung (“cross-bar, spoke”), hring 'ring'.
