From a Vulgar Latin root *horrīre, from Latin horrēre, present active infinitive of horreō (I am afraid) (other forms or parts of the verb from horrēscere, horrēscō as with many other 4th conjugation verbs); compare Aromanian urãscu; compare change in meaning also in Albanian urrej (to hate), Occitan orrir (to hate, despise). See also borî.
