torpedo punt (plural torpedo punts)

  1. (Australian rules football) A kick of the football made whereby the pointy ends of the ball are oriented lengthwise along its trajectory, thereby aiding aerodynamics. Some spin about the lengthwise axis is imparted to help keep that orientation in flight.
