Related to Ancient Greek ἐρεύγομαι (ereúgomai, belch), ὀρῠμαγδός (orumagdós, noise), ὠρῡγή (ōrūgḗ, noise, roaring).[1] Perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *h₁rewg-.
