Etymology

From Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (qonşu)[1]. Ultimately from Proto-Turkic *Kon- (neighbour; friend; guest), whence also Azerbaijani qonaq (guest). Compare Turkish komşu, Uzbek qoʻshni, Turkmen goňşy, Kyrgyz кошуна (koşuna, guest), Kumyk хоншу.
