From Proto-Turkic *kaŕgan- (to earn). Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰴𐰕𐰍𐰣 (qazɣan-, to conquer, gain, win)[1], Turkish kazanmak, Chuvash хӑрхӑн (hărhăn, miser).
