From Proto-Albanian *ki(i)atśi-, from Proto-Indo-European *kei-(h2-) 'to put, set in motion'. Cognate to Ancient Greek (Hes.) κίατο ἐκινει̃το (kíato ekineĩto), Lithuanian kečiù, kėsti (to stretch).
