Etymology 2

According to von Beckerath, from Meroitic pi (to live), with the ankh glyph in the name merely serving as a determinative. Leprohon instead interprets the name as pꜣ (O) + ꜥnḫy (living one), but notes that the reading is uncertain and considers it possible that the ankh is to be read as a prospective form of the verb ꜥnḫ (to live). In this case the name is indeed simply py and the ankh is not a part of it.
