From Proto-Turkic *ob- (to crush, mince, grind).[1] Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (uv-, to crumble, pulverize), Azerbaijani ovmaq (to crumble, massage), Bashkir ыуыу (ïwïw, to grind, pound).
