oppiarvo

Finnish

Etymology

oppi + arvo

Noun

oppiarvo

  1. A degree, as an award bestowed by a university or a college as an indication of academic achievement (an honorary degree is referred to as arvo).

Usage notes

In everyday usage tutkinto is normally used instead of oppiarvo. For practical purposes the difference is insignificant, since obtaining an oppiarvo is the direct result of accomplishing everything that is required for a tutkinto.
