Either from Vulgar Latin *and(i)tāre, from *ambitāre, frequentative of Latin ambīre or aditāre, frequentative of adīre, or alternatively possibly from *amnāre, from dissimilation of earlier *amlāre, a proto-Romance or Vulgar Latin variant of ambulāre, or from Vulgar Latin adnāre. Compare Italian andare, Friulian , Sicilian annari.
