From dialectal manj, from Proto-Albanian *mazdnja, deverbative of Proto-Indo-European *mh₂sd- (compare English mast (nuts (pig feed)), Greek μαστός (mastós, breast)), from *meh₂d-;[1] alternatively from *mh₂dnyeti,[2] directly from Proto-Indo-European *meh₂d- (compare Latin madere (to be wet), Sanskrit मेदन (médana, fattening)).
