Turkish

Etymology

From Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (kolay), from kol (arm; earlier also 'hand') + -ay, thus having the original meaning 'handy'[1]. Nişanyan compares the Old Turkic verbal stem [script needed] (qol-, to want; beg), which is also derived from the stem meaning 'arm/hand' [2].

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): [kɔˈɫɑj]

Adjective

kolay (comparative daha kolay, superlative en kolay)

  1. easy
  2. (archaic) lucky
