From Middle High German komen, from Old High German kweman, from Proto-Germanic *kwemaną. Cognate with German kommen, Dutch komen, English come, Icelandic koma, Gothic 𐌵𐌹𐌼𐌰𐌽 (qiman).

Verb

khèmman (strong class 4 )

  1. (Sette Comuni) to come

Usage notes

This verb is suppletive in the imperative mood: ail! ((you) come!), ailt! ((you all) come!). These come from the verb ailan (to hurry, rush, be urgent) (cognate to German eilen).
