From German Kainit, coined by Carl Friedrich Jacob Zincken, from Ancient Greek κινητικός (kinētikós, “new, recent”) + -it (-ite)

kainite (countable and uncountable, plural kainites)
- (mineralogy) A saline evaporite, consisting of magnesium sulphate and potassium chloride with the chemical formula MgSO4·KCl·3H2O, found in German salt mines.
