Originally ‘snout’, from Proto-Albanian *skuntā, from *skuna ‘stake, pole’ (modern hu), close to Germanic *skuna, *skunō (compare Faroese skon, Norwegian skut (“projection, overhang”)).[1][2] More at hu.
