From hndwk' (Hindūg, “an Indian”), from Old Persian 𐏃𐎡𐎯𐎢𐏁 (hinduš), from Sanskrit सिन्धु (sindhu, “the Indus River”) or Proto-Iranian *sindʰu. Also see hnd (hind).
