Etymology

From gabë (blunder), Proto-Albanian *gaubā, from Proto-Indo-European *gʰeub(ʰ)- (to bend, move). Close to Lithuanian gaubiù, gaũbti (cover, wrap up, curve), Old Norse goppa (jump up and down, swing) and Russian губи́ть (gubítʹ, to wreck). (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)

Alternatively from Italian gabbare (I deceive, trick).[1]
