From Late Ottoman Turkish ابرو (ebru), though earlier texts all employ the Persian term ابری (abri, literally cloudy).

  1. A traditional marbled paper art of Turkey. It is known by this name since the mid-19th century in Turkey, but before that the Persian term ابرى abrī was used in all textual sources in Ottoman and Chaghatay Turkish, the same as used in Iran, and India.
