Etymology
From Scythian *čapi (compare Ossetian цӕу (cæw)), from Turkic *čepiš (“half-yearling kid”) (whence Persian چپش (čapiš, “yearling kid”), Azeri çəpiş). Lent Romanian țap. Doublet of sqap, with initial s- identical to Germanic (see sheep).
