butuc

Romanian

Etymology

Uncertain. Possibly from a Vulgar Latin root *bot(t)um, *bottia (bump) + -uc, a Germanic borrowing, from Frankish *boce (knob), from Old High German bozzan (to beat), from Proto-Germanic *bautaną (to push, strike).[1]

Compare bot.
