From Middle High German besprechen, from Old High German besprechan, besprehhan (also bisprechōn, bisprehhōn), from Proto-Germanic *bisprekaną (to speak about, discuss, blame), equivalent to be- + sprechen. Cognate with English bespeak, Dutch bespreken, West Frisian besprekke.
