Unknown. Hypothetical derivations include[1]:

Hebrew בָּרוּךְ הַבָּא‎ (barúkh habá), a greeting used by Jews;
Latin Berecynthia, a goddess whose feasts were accompanied by orgies;
influence of confundir (“to confuse”).
