From Old Irish errach, from Proto-Celtic *wesrakos, enlargement of Proto-Celtic *wesr-, from Proto-Indo-European *wósr̥ (compare Latin vēr, Lithuanian vãsara (summer), Polish wiosna, Sanskrit वसन्त (vasanta, summer), वसर् (vasar, in the morning)). Cognate with Irish earrach and Scottish Gaelic earrach.
