From Middle Irish fogamur (harvest), from Old Irish fogamur, fogomur (last month of harvest), from Proto-Celtic *wo-gamur (under winter), from *gamur (winter). Akin to geurey (winter). Compare Scottish Gaelic foghar, Irish fómhar.
