From Middle Irish fogamur (“harvest”), from Old Irish fogamur, fogomur (“last month of harvest”), from Proto-Celtic *wo-gamur (“under winter”), from *gamur (“winter”). Akin to geurey (“winter”). Compare Scottish Gaelic foghar, Irish fómhar.
