aparmak

Turkish

Etymology

From Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (aparmaq), probably from *alıp barmak, equivalent to alıp, converb of almak (to take) + varmak (to go). Compare Uzbek obormoq, Uyghur ئاپارماق (aparmaq) and Azerbaijani aparmaq with the same meaning.

According to Ačaṙean, from the same Iranian source as Old Armenian ապուռ (apuṙ); see there for more.

Verb

aparmak (third-person singular simple present aparır)

  1. (dialectal) to take away
  2. (slang) to make off with
