From Proto-Inuit *aŋu-nt, from Proto-Eskimo *aŋu-nt. Compare Inuktitut ᐊᖑᑦ (angut) and Inuvialuktun angun. Related to anguvoq (catches a seal) (by a reduced form of -ti), according to Stig Bjørnum.[1]
