aerosol (plural aerosols)

  1. A mixture of fine solid particles or liquid droplets suspended in a gaseous medium.
    Examples of common aerosols are mist, fog, and smoke. (JCS Pub. 1-02).
  2. A dispersion of fine particles of a solid or liquid in a pressurized or liquefied gas propellant for release as an aerosol spray.
    An aerosol was used to force the flea powder out of the can.
  3. (physics) A colloidal system in which the dispersed phase is composed of either solid or liquid particles and in which the dispersal medium is some gas, usually air.
