Etymology

Has been derived from Proto-Indo-European *tep-, but according to Starostin this is unlikely.

Gamkrelidze believes the opposite direction of borrowing to be also possible, due to entirely normal Kartvelian structure.

Root

  1. to warm oneself

Descendants

  • Georgian-Zan:
  • Indo-European: *tep- (possibly)
  • Svan: ტებიდ (ṭebid)
