Proto-Finnic

Etymology

From an unattested stem with the reflexive suffix + *-üdäk. If the word has after suffixation undergone an assimilation *sent-ü- > *süntü- (compare *lülü), it may be akin to Komi содны (sodny, to breed), Hungarian ellik (to give birth), from Proto-Finno-Ugric *sentɜ-, which in turn is possibly an old loan from Proto-Iranian *zan- (to beget), from Proto-Indo-European *ǵenh₁-.

Verb

*süntüdäk

  1. to be born
