Usage notes
- In German-speaking Europe, maize is commonest as a fodder crop. In cuisine, it is generally regarded and used as a vegetable. Referring to it as a Getreide (“cereal”) may strike non-specialist German-speakers as unusual or wrong (though it is, of course, biologically correct).
Synonyms
- Kukuruz (Austria)
