German Low German

Etymology

From Middle Low German bîl, from the merger of Old Saxon bīl, bil (peg, nail) and Old Saxon bil, bill (hatchet, sword, battle-axe). Apparently at least partly from Proto-Germanic *bilją (blade, sword, nail, peg), but conflated early on with another word, see that entry for more.
