Etymology
Uncertain. Ačaṙyan leaves the origin open.[1]
J̌ahukyan connects the *ձու- (*ju-) part with ձուկն (jukn). He compares *-ղբ (*-łb) with Old Irish reduplicated lelap, lelab, lenab (“infant, babe, child”), reconstructing Proto-Indo-European *lebʰ- (“youngling, nestling, child”) for the Armenian and Celtic, deriving ձուղբ (jułb) from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰū-lebʰ- (literally “fish-youngling”).[2] Martirosyan tentatively derives *-ղբ (*-łb) from աղբ (ałb, “excrement, dung”), for the semantics comparing ծիրտ (cirt, “dung (of birds and flies)”) : ծրտեմ (crtem, “to spawn”).[3]

Attested in Sarafean's book, in the form ծուղպ (cułp, “икра”).[4]
