Sgt. Maj. Daniel Joseph Daly

Sergeant Major Daniel Joseph "Dan" Daly (November 11 1873 – April 27 1937) was a United States Marine and one of only 19 men (and two Marines) to receive the Medal of Honor twice for two separate acts of heroism. (The other such Marine was Major General Smedley Butler). According to Dr. Raymond J. Tassin author of Double Winners of The Medal of Honor ppg. 156 "For his actions of 5-7 and 10 June Daly was recommended for a third Medal of Honor. But higher military authority didn't think anyone should have three, so he received the second highest decoration, The Navy Cross and the Distinguished Service Cross, and, from the French, the Medaille Mailitaire. General Pershing also offered him a battlefield commission, but he rejected it."
