Stephanie Beacham

Stephanie Beacham (Barnet, 28 april 1947) is een Engelse actrice. Ze is vooral bekend van haar rol als Iris McKay in de serie Beverly Hills, 90210 en ook als Sable Colby. Deze rol speelde ze van 1985 tot 1987 in Dynasty-spin-off, The Colbys en van 1988 tot 1989 speelde ze deze rol opnieuw in Dynasty.

Stephanie Beacham komt uit een gezin van vier kinderen. Ze is geboren in het Engelse Barnet als dochter van een huisvrouw en een manager van een verzekeringsbedrijf.

Kort na haar geboorte werd geconstateerd dat ze volledig doof was aan haar rechteroor omdat haar moeder tijdens haar zwangerschap waterpokken heeft gehad. Ze heeft in haar linkeroor nog 75% van haar gehoorcapaciteit.

Na het verlaten van de basisschool reisde ze naar Frankrijk om pantomime te leren bij de bekende Franse mime-speler Étienne Decroux. Daarna volgde ze een opleiding om actrice te worden aan de Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in Londen.

Aanvankelijk wilde ze dansles geven aan dove kinderen, maar ze begon haar carrière bij een modellenbureau. Daar werd ze ontdekt door een castingbureau voor televisieseries.

Beacham was tussen 1973 en 1978 getrouwd met acteur John McEnery. Ze hebben twee kinderen.

In 2008 werd er basalecelcarcinoom bij haar ontdekt. Na behandeling is zij tot op heden vrij van kanker gebleven. Beacham woont regelmatig op Malibu en heeft ook huizen in Londen en Marokko.
