Poecilotheria striata is een spinnensoort in de taxonomische indeling van de vogelspinnen (Theraphosidae).[2]

Het dier behoort tot het geslacht Poecilotheria. De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort werd voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1895 door Mary Agard Pocock.
De soort komt voor in het zuidwesten van India. Hij staat op de Rode Lijst van de IUCN als kwetsbaar. De populatietrend is dalend. De spin wordt vrij veel als huisdier verkocht.[1]
